Construction of hedge fund major Citadel’s planned Miami headquarters in the city’s Brickell financial district has been suspended after a rig collapsed at the site last week, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal.
The incident prompted county authorities to issue a stop-work order while an investigation into the accident is carried out.
The duration of the suspension and the cause of the collapse remain unclear. The Journal reported that investigations into construction accidents of this type can take several months.
The rig came down on Monday and struck a number of vehicles, with at least four people taken to hospital with minor injuries, according to Miami’s fire department. The developer of the project, Related Companies, said following the incident that it was working with city and county authorities to secure the site and investigate what happened.
Citadel had reportedly not immediately responded to requests for comment outside normal business hours.
