CPPIB and Temasek back hedge fund Arrowpoint, joining Blackstone

Arrowpoint Investment Partners, one of Asia’s largest hedge fund launches this year, has secured investment from the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board and a unit of Singapore’s Temasek Holdings, according to a report by Reuters.

These sovereign wealth funds join Blackstone, which had previously seeded the new Singapore-based fund.

In a LinkedIn post, Joo Lee, co-founder and chief technology officer at Arrowpoint, wrote: “Blackstone, Temasek, and CPPIB have confirmed their support as our seed backers.”

Bloomberg initially reported the fundraising effort, noting that Seviora Capital, a wholly-owned unit of Singapore’s state investor Temasek, was among the seeders.

Arrowpoint was founded by Jonathan Xiong, the former Asia co-CEO of Millennium Management, a multi-manager hedge fund giant. Xiong left Millennium Management last September, according to regulatory records.

The fund is set to commence trading in July, featuring over 15 portfolio managers. Additionally, Arrowpoint has expanded its team in Hong Kong, according to sources familiar with the matter. Reuters reported in February that the fund had already raised about $1bn.
