Bobby Jain’s new hedge fund, Jain Global, has added Joanne Lim, a former senior trader at Balyasny Asset Management, to its Hong Kong office, according to a report by Financial News.

Lim started at Balyasny in 2022 as a trader in Hong Kong, following roles at AB Bernstein, Société Générale and CITIC Securities amongst others, according to her LinkedIn profile.

Founded by Bobby Jain, former co-CIO at Millennium Management and managing director at Credit Suisse, Jain Global is set to launch on 1 July, having so far raised $5.3bn, Bloomberg reported. The hedge fund has been rapidly expanding its team in preparation for the launch and currently boasts over 150 staff members.

Lim’s hiring forms part of Jain’s plans, reported earlier by Bloomberg, to employ over 30 staff members in Asia by its launch date, leveraging a management model that will give local leaders key responsibilities like hiring and risk management.

Last September, Bloomberg reported that Morgan Stanley managing director Sam Kellie-Smith joined the firm as chief investment officer and chief executive for the Asia-Pacific region.

In April, Crescent Asset Management’s Sant Gupta joined Jain Global as a portfolio manager in its Singapore office, while earlier this month, Nadir Benaissa, a former trader at BNP Paribas, joined as a macro analyst.

Jain will operate globally across New York, London, Hong Kong and Singapore, with New York remaining the firm’s largest office.
