Former Nebula Research and Development Chief Investment Officer Limin Yang has been hired by Balyasny Asset Management, according to a report by eFinancialCareers.
Yang served as CIO at the New York-based statistical arbitrage firm from August 2022 until September 2025, according to his LinkedIn profile. He recently joined Balyasny, which declined to comment on the appointment.
Nebula was founded in 2019 by Michael Graves, a former quantitative portfolio manager at Cubist Systematic Strategies, where he spent nine years before departing in 2018.
Graves died in 2022, aged 49, reportedly following a heart attack while on holiday with his family. His wife subsequently took over the running of the firm.
Following Graves' death, Paloma Capital Partners, which had provided seed capital to Nebula, withdrew its investment, according to a report by Business Insider.
Before joining Nebula, Yang held senior quantitative investment roles at several financial institutions, including Managing Director in BlackRock's alternative asset management quantitative research team and Portfolio Manager at Laurion Capital Management. He also previously worked as a proprietary trader at Credit Suisse.
