Bridgewater Associates’ flagship Pure Alpha macro fund gained 18.4% during the first nine months of 2026, according to a report by Reuters citing unnamed people familiar with the performance, extending a strong run for the strategy after a period of significant market volatility.
The gains came despite a difficult third quarter for many hedge funds, including a sharp sell-off in artificial intelligence-related stocks in July that forced some managers to unwind technology-linked positions.
Bridgewater’s performance has since recovered, with the firm’s broader macro approach benefiting from opportunities across markets. The Westport, Connecticut-based manager oversees about $102bn in assets.
Bridgewater’s artificial intelligence-focused AIA Macro fund also delivered a strong performance, gaining 16.4% up to 29 September, according to one person familiar with the figures. The strategy, which launched in late 2023 and manages more than $4.5bn, has generated an annualised return of 13.2% since inception.
