Citadel Securities is relocating to a significantly larger office in India as it expands its trading and engineering operations in the country, according to a report by Bloomberg.

The Miami-based firm will move from its existing premises at Two Horizon Center in Gurugram to a nearby Godrej Industries group building early next year, nearly doubling its office space to accommodate further headcount growth.

According to a property filing obtained by real estate analytics firm Propstack, Citadel Securities has leased more than 12,800 square feet at a monthly rent of 196 rupees ($2.06) per square foot, substantially above the area's typical rate of 130–150 rupees.

The expansion comes as India attracts growing interest from global high-frequency trading firms and liquidity providers, intensifying competition for quantitative researchers, engineers and traders. Several firms have offered record compensation packages to secure specialist talent.

Gurugram, a major financial and technology hub outside New Delhi, is home to more than a dozen high-frequency trading and market-making firms, making it a key centre for India's algorithmic and proprietary trading industry.

However, the expansion comes amid tightening regulatory scrutiny of India's derivatives markets, particularly options trading, where new restrictions have weighed on volumes. India's options market, the world's largest by contracts traded, has attracted international trading firms seeking arbitrage and market-making opportunities.

Citadel Securities has been expanding its Indian workforce as part of its broader efforts to increase its presence in the market. A spokesperson declined to comment on the relocation.
