Citadel Securities has appointed former Goldman Sachs managing director Andrew Kalafarski as head of electronic equities sales, strengthening its leadership team as the market-making firm continues to recruit senior trading executives from major investment banks, according to a report by eFinancialCareers.

Kalafarski joins after a 20-year career at Goldman Sachs, where he worked in electronic trading sales and was promoted to managing director in 2021. His appointment, confirmed by Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) records, adds further experience to Citadel Securities' equities business, which accounts for more than 23% of total US equity execution, according to the firm.

The move follows several high-profile hires from Goldman Sachs, including former partner Jim Esposito, who became president of Citadel Securities in 2024, and Joseph Anastasio, co-head of high-touch equities sales trading, who spent 16 years at the bank.

Citadel Securities has also expanded its fixed income operations, appointing former Goldman Sachs partner Nikhil Choraria as co-head of fixed income earlier this year, with his registration becoming effective in September.

The latest appointment highlights continued competition between electronic market makers and investment banks for experienced trading professionals, as Citadel Securities strengthens its institutional client coverage and expands its presence across equities and fixed income markets.
