The European Energy Exchange (EEX) is set to introduce physically settled daily natural gas futures across four major European gas hubs, giving trading participants a new way to manage short-term price exposure.
The new contracts will be launched on EEX's T7 futures trading platform on 23 November 2026 and will cover the Dutch TTF, German THE, Austrian CEGH VTP and French PEG hubs.
The daily maturity will allow market participants to take positions on natural gas prices with greater granularity than existing contracts, while a new Day-Month spread functionality will create additional opportunities for relative-value trading.
Steffen Köhler, chief commercial officer at EEX, said the contracts would complement the exchange's existing physical and financial natural gas futures and allow participants to implement more targeted trading strategies.
The new spread product could be particularly relevant during the period when European gas storage facilities are being replenished ahead of the winter demand season, EEX said.
EEX already offers physically settled natural gas futures covering maturities from one month through to several years, alongside financially settled contracts linked to the EGSI index.
The daily futures represent the latest expansion of the exchange's short-term gas trading offering. They follow recent developments in EEX's spot-market products, including the introduction of the EEX530 index and its Trade-at-Index functionality.
The new contracts are designed to provide market participants with additional tools for managing short-term gas price risk across some of Europe's key trading hubs, while also broadening opportunities for spread and relative-value strategies.
