Hedge funds posted a 0.31% decline in September 2026, while net investor flows fell 0.16% in October, according to the latest SS&C GlobeOp Hedge Fund Performance Index and Capital Movement Index.
Despite September's decline, hedge funds remain up 8.27% year-to-date and 12.99% over the past 12 months, according to the asset-weighted performance index, which tracks funds administered through the SS&C GlobeOp platform.
The SS&C GlobeOp Capital Movement Index fell 0.16 points to 132.94 in October, reflecting net redemptions consistent with quarter-end portfolio rebalancing. The index remains 5.45 points higher than a year earlier.
Bill Stone, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of SS&C Technologies, said investors face several risks heading into the final quarter of 2026, including the US midterm elections, potential further interest rate increases, geopolitical tensions and volatile energy prices.
Stone said hedge funds remain an attractive option for investors seeking to limit drawdowns and improve risk-adjusted returns during periods of market uncertainty.
The SS&C GlobeOp Performance Index measures the aggregate returns of hedge funds administered on its platform, while the Capital Movement Index tracks actual investor subscriptions and redemptions as a proportion of assets under administration.
The Forward Redemption Indicator provides a measure of anticipated withdrawals, offering insight into investor liquidity demand.
SS&C GlobeOp's administration platform represents approximately 10% of estimated global hedge fund assets, with its indices covering a range of investment strategies.
The next Capital Movement Index update is scheduled for 12 November 2026.
