Ryan Fitzgerald, Head of Middle Office Solutions, discusses Citco’s role in delivering the scale, digitization and automation needed to support hedge fund growth and allowing them to focus their priorities on generating alpha.

In no more than 50 words, please describe your core service offering and how it uniquely addresses the current needs of US hedge fund managers.

As the industry-leading independent asset servicer, Citco provides the full range of fund admin services including Middle Office Solutions (MOS) which spans three core pillars: Treasury Management, Trade Operations and Collateral Management. We offer clients scalable, innovative solutions tailored to their unique needs and operational complexities, underpinned by our best-in-class proprietary technology.

What three key differentiators of your business and service suite have most contributed to your success in the North American market?

In North America specifically, regulatory pressures and tighter margins have created a real need for managers to have in place outsourced functions across the middle- and back-office which allow for leaner operational models with streamlined workflows and increased data oversight while keeping overheads low, so they can focus on generating alpha. For example, the move to T+1 settlement for trades has pushed managers to seek a partner in trade matching.

And as a trusted partner for clients globally, we continue to invest and innovate in three core areas: technology and automation; excellence in client service delivery; and expertise in servicing complex operational fund structures. Our clients want an experienced, tech-enabled partner who provides a strong oversight model when outsourcing.  We understand the complexity of the operational infrastructure and the processes that sit within it, and we have the resilience to scale alongside them in the long term. Citco’s innovative culture means that we are constantly working on optimizing and improving technological integration, streamlining data consolidation and mitigating risks for clients across our best-in-class products and service offerings. The investments we have made in technology make our offering very compelling.

Which market developments or regulatory shifts do you anticipate will most significantly impact your service delivery model in the coming year?

Strategic outsourcing has been on the rise in recent years, and the middle office function (which includes reconciliation, treasury and collateral) is leading the pack in terms of what business processes a multi-strategy manager is most likely to outsource.

Looking more broadly across our global client base, the demand for MOS services has really ramped up due to a combination of factors, including managers’ expansion into new asset classes (which has increased operational complexity and internal workloads) along with the need to leverage automation to manage key processes and workflows more efficiently without having to invest the time or money to build their own tech stack.

In turn, we are focused on bolstering our team of experts while continuing to enhance our tech suite to ensure that our products and maintain a seamless service delivery go the extra mile for our clients.

What strategic initiatives is your firm implementing to address these expected changes?

Citco has a proven ability to deliver the scale, digitization and automation needed to support clients’ growth, and our strategic initiatives build on these strengths. This includes expanding the use of AI across our operating models and existing products, balanced with appropriate human oversight. We are also developing future-ready data infrastructure that gives clients greater visibility and control.

How have your services specifically helped hedge fund clients navigate operational complexities and market challenges throughout 2026?

Amid unprecedented market volatility, clients have faced challenges ranging from asset diversification and regulatory change to pricing and headcount pressures. Our comprehensive, scalable MOS offering is supported by continued investment in market-leading proprietary products that simplify operations and reduce manual intervention for clients’ internal teams. This enables clients to focus more of their resources on growth and investment-critical functions, rather than essential but strategically neutral activities.
