Millennium Management, the $57 billion hedge fund founded by Israel Englander, has taken the first significant step in boosting its presence in Australia with the appointment of portfolio manager Alex Wallis, according to a report by Financial review.

Wallis, who switched from hedge fund sales to the buyside several years ago, moving into long-short equities trading, was most recently a portfolio manager at Hong Kong-based Polymer Capital, which was founded by former Point 72 Asia head Angus Wai in 2019, and has since grown to be one of Australia's biggest hedge funds.
According to his LinkedIn profile, prior to Polymer, Wallis also served as an equity long-short portfolio manager at Maven Investment Partners, and again as an equity long-short portfolio manager for an Asia-biased global absolute return strategy at Lima Capital.
