Millennium Management is preparing to establish a presence in Athens, adding one of the world’s largest multi-strategy hedge funds to a growing group of alternative investment firms expanding their footprint in Greece, according to a report by Reuters.
Greek Finance Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis said the firm’s plans were discussed with Millennium President Ajay Nagpal and EMEA chief executive Martin Pabari following a meeting with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
Millennium said its new Athens operation will support the development of Greece’s asset-management ecosystem and form part of the firm’s broader efforts to attract investment professionals from around the world and connect them with its global platform.
Pierrakakis described the expansion as further evidence of Greece’s growing profile as a destination for investment and financial services. The government is seeking to develop Athens into a European centre for investment and international talent.
Founded in 1989 by Israel Englander, Millennium is one of the largest multistrategy hedge fund firms globally. The firm manages more than $97bn in assets and employs over 7,000 people worldwide, according to its website.
