Omni Partners launches Omni Event Fund

Omni Partners has launched an event-driven fund, the Omni Event Fund, which began trading on 1 September with USD86m of initial capital and is now open to external investors.

The fund is managed from the firm’s California office where John Melsom serves as chief investment officer and senior portfolio manager. Melsom began working alongside Steve Clark and Gavin Simpson in 2001 and joined Omni Partners upon its inception in 2004.

During Melsom’s tenure at Omni he was previously co-portfolio manager of the Omni Global Fund, which posted seven consecutive years of positive returns and won a Lipper Award for the three-year period 2008-2010. Peak assets in the Omni Global strategy were nearly USD700m.

The Omni Event Fund follows an actively-traded global event-driven strategy, which Melsom has refined through more than a decade of investing. The fund focuses on the securities of companies undergoing significant corporate actions and other hard catalyst events globally. Omni Event will employ the same strict risk management framework that Melsom has used throughout his career and has the full support and infrastructure of Omni Partners, which has 31 employees firm-wide and nearly USD800m of assets under management.
