Point72 has hired Ashot Ordukhanyan, a former co-head of JPMorgan's equities central risk book, as head of risk technology in New York, adding a senior quantitative and risk specialist to the hedge fund's technology operation, according to a report by eFinancial Careers.

Ordukhanyan joins Point72 from risk-management technology company ActiveViam, where he spent two years as head of quantitative development. Prior to that, he was co-head of JPMorgan's equities central risk book for two years.

Central risk book teams monitor and manage exposures generated by trading desks across a bank, making their quantitative and risk-management expertise potentially transferable to multi-strategy hedge funds, where technology is increasingly used to monitor positions and manage risk across individual investment teams.

Ordukhanyan has held senior quantitative strategy roles at several major banks during a career spanning more than two decades. He spent 14 years at Goldman Sachs, rising to become co-head of US equity algorithmic trading strategies before moving to RBS, where he ran rates algorithmic trading.

He subsequently joined Deutsche Bank as head of equity strategies for the Americas before moving to JPMorgan.

Point72 has also recently seen a senior technology departure. Guillaume Gimonet, the firm's global head of treasury technology, left this month to become head of fixed-income and ETF technology at Vanguard.

Gimonet spent seven years at Point72 and previously led macro risk and treasury technology. Before joining the hedge fund, he was a managing director at Credit Suisse and served as chief technology officer at Soros Fund Management.

Point72 reportedly declined to comment on Ordukhanyan's appointment.
