Qube Research & Technologies is strengthening its metals trading operation with the appointment of Adhitya Sethaputra, who is joining the multi-strategy hedge fund following his departure from commodities trader Radiant World, according to a report by Bloomberg.
The report cites an unnamed person familiar with them matter as revealing that Sethaputra is expected to join QRT’s Geneva office in November. He most recently served as head of refined metals at Radiant World, where the base metals operation was run separately from the firm’s iron ore business.
Before joining Radiant, Sethaputra held senior positions at IXM Holding, including head of aluminium and co-head of refined metals.
His move comes as QRT and other large multi-strategy hedge funds increasingly explore physical commodities trading, seeking opportunities in less liquid and more specialised segments of regional markets for metals including copper, aluminium and zinc.
Radiant World has been under pressure in recent months, with its iron ore business at the centre of allegations that the company used falsified documents to obtain hundreds of millions of dollars in financing. The firm has denied wrongdoing and has subsequently undertaken further job cuts.
The hire also follows the departure of QRT metals trader Dan Timosenko from its London office earlier this year. Timosenko is expected to join Millennium Management after completing a non-compete period, according to a person familiar with the matter.
