Their appointments underline the importance StormHarbour clearly places on Asia Pacific capital markets, in particular Korea and Greater China. Indeed, the firm expanded its presence in Asia in March when it hired four senior executives in Hong Kong and Singapore, three of which formed the Asia-Pacific infrastructure finance team according to the official press release. Hong Hoo has over 25 years’ banking and capital markets experience. He was formerly head of Financial Institutions Group and head of investment banking at BNP Paribas Securities, Seoul. Guohua was formerly head of capital markets, China global markets at Standard Chartered in Hong Kong and has over 30 years’ industry experience. Both will report to Water Cheung, Principal and Asia Pacific CEO. Given their backgrounds, Hong Hoo will focus on Korean capital markets origination, with Guohua focusing on Greater China. Commenting on the new hires, Cheung said that the appointments were further evidence of “our commitment to the region”. “Hong Hoo and Guohua have extensive industry experience and expertise, which, together with their senior level relationships among Asian corporates and financial institutions, will be of huge benefit to the firm as we grow our business in Asia Pacific and particularly in Korea and Greater China,” said Cheung.
