Portfolio intelligence provider Arcana has appointed former Goldman Sachs executive Rhys Williams as head of EMEA, as the technology firm looks to expand its presence among hedge funds and asset managers across the region.

Williams brings almost 20 years of experience working with institutional investors and financial institutions, covering client relationships, business development and technology-led financial services.

He joins Arcana from Goldman Sachs, where he most recently served as global head of Marquee Strategic Client Coverage and EMEA Sales. In that role, he was responsible for developing the relationship-management function for Marquee, Goldman Sachs' digital platform for institutional clients, while overseeing its commercial expansion across EMEA.

During his career, Williams has worked with hedge funds, asset managers and other institutional investors, giving him experience across investment, risk, trading, data and technology functions.

At Arcana, he will be responsible for the company's EMEA operations, including expanding its institutional client base, strengthening relationships with existing investors and developing its regional team.

Rich Falk-Wallace, Arcana's chief executive and co-founder, said EMEA represented an important growth opportunity for the company and highlighted Williams' experience working with sophisticated investment organisations.

Williams said Arcana's platform addresses challenges he had encountered during his career and that he would focus on helping more investment firms use technology to analyse portfolio risk, performance and underlying drivers.

Arcana provides portfolio construction, performance attribution, risk management, research and alpha-capture capabilities through a single platform, alongside AI-enabled workflows.

The company said more than 300 institutions managing a combined $20tn in assets use its technology, as institutional investors increasingly look to consolidate investment and risk workflows while making greater use of data and artificial intelligence.
