Brevan Howard has hired Goldman Sachs vice president Carlos Licon as a portfolio manager in New York, adding an emerging-markets macro specialist to its growing investment team, according to a report by eFinancial Careers
Licon spent almost six years as a vice president at Goldman Sachs, following a career that included roles in both Mexico City and New York. He focuses on emerging-markets macro trading and has now moved to the hedge fund for a more senior investment role.
The move highlights the continued flow of experienced bank trading talent into the hedge fund sector, particularly among investment professionals with specialist expertise in emerging markets.
Licon described his time at Goldman as an “amazing journey” that provided extensive opportunities to learn and build relationships across the firm. His departure comes as he approaches the point at which he could potentially have been considered for promotion to managing director.
Brevan Howard has been expanding beyond its traditional macro roots since broadening its strategy mix in 2018, while continuing to invest in its emerging-markets capabilities.
London-based partner Claire McCathie oversees the firm's emerging-markets fund and has been strengthening the team with additional specialists. The group has added Latin America-focused talent in recent years, including economist Arturo Charleston and Juan Pablo Solorzano Margain, formerly head of Latin American research at Schonfeld.
