Investor redemption notices at hedge funds administered by SS&C GlobeOp increased in September, although they remained below the level recorded a year earlier, according to the latest reading from the fund administrator's Forward Redemption Indicator.
The indicator rose to 2.02% in September from 1.64% in August, but was below the 2.21% recorded in September 2025.
The measure tracks forward redemption notices received from investors in hedge funds administered by SS&C GlobeOp, expressed as a percentage of assets under administration at the beginning of the month. The data is based on actual redemption notifications rather than estimates.
Bill Stone, chairman and chief executive of SS&C Technologies, said the September figure remained consistent with seasonal patterns and suggested that investor redemptions were continuing to compare favourably with previous periods despite economic uncertainty, geopolitical tensions and elevated market volatility.
“Investors continue to value the diversification and attractive risk-adjusted returns offered by hedge funds,” Stone said.
The latest reading remains well above the indicator's record low of 1.26%, recorded in April 2026, but substantially below its historical peak of 19.27% in November 2008 during the global financial crisis.
Redemption notifications are typically submitted between 30 and 90 days ahead of the actual redemption date, meaning the indicator provides an early indication of potential changes in hedge fund allocations. Investors can subsequently cancel redemption requests, while notice periods and redemption arrangements vary between individual funds.
The September increase therefore does not necessarily translate directly into capital leaving hedge funds, but provides a snapshot of the redemption pipeline among managers using SS&C GlobeOp's administration platform.
SS&C GlobeOp's latest figures also show continued positive performance across its hedge fund benchmark. Its Hedge Fund Performance Index posted a gross flash estimate of 0.83% for the current month, taking its gross return to 8.63% for the year to date and 14.90% over the latest 12-month period.
The SS&C GlobeOp Capital Movement Index also reached 133.10 in September, its highest level over the past 12 months.
SS&C GlobeOp said its hedge fund indices are based on aggregated and anonymised data from a broad range of funds for which it provides administration services. The company's platform represents approximately 10% of estimated assets invested in the global hedge fund sector.
The next Forward Redemption Indicator is scheduled to be published on 21 October.
