Point72 has appointed former Goldman Sachs partner Faisal Shamsee as chief infrastructure engineering officer in Singapore, continuing the hedge fund's recruitment of senior technology executives from the investment bank, according to a report by eFinancialCareers.
Shamsee joins Steve Cohen's hedge fund after 25 years at Goldman Sachs, where he most recently served as co-head of its Singapore operations. He previously held several senior technology positions, including head of core engineering for Asia Pacific, and was promoted to partner in 2022.
The appointment follows a series of technology hires from Goldman Sachs, including Ilya Gaysinskiy, who joined Point72 as chief technology officer in 2024 after overseeing technology for Goldman's Marcus consumer banking business. The firm has also recruited several former Goldman technology fellows, including Rahul Garde, now head of platform infrastructure.
Other senior Goldman alumni at Point72 include chief risk officer Michael Fisher, who joined in 2024. Shamsee is understood to be the first Goldman partner to join the firm's technology leadership since Gaysinskiy's appointment.
The recruitment highlights intensifying competition between hedge funds and investment banks for senior engineering talent as investment managers expand their technology infrastructure, data capabilities and systematic trading platforms. Rival Citadel has also recruited several senior Goldman technology executives in recent years, although its latest chief technology officer appointment, Matt Taddy, came from Amazon.
