George Weiss Associates Inc, has hired John Gallagher as senior vice president and head of marketing and client service.

Weiss joins the Hartford and New York domiciled broker/dealer from Gartmore Riverview, the fund of funds affiliate of Gartmore, where he was responsible for business development and held a seat on the board of managers.

Prior to joining Gartmore, Gallagher, who has degrees in history from both Princeton and Oxford, worked at Deutsche Bank where he was instrumental in developing the distribution of hedge fund products to private investors and institutions domestically.

Gallagher's appointment coincides with George Weiss's plans to form a registered investment adviser and to recharge its institutional practice. The firm has been operating primarily as a proprietary investment house since the mid-nineties. During that time it has substantially increased its capabilities in research, trading and risk management. The Weiss tem now runs a diversified trading and investment enterprise staffed by more than a dozen specialised, strategy-specific teams.

George Weiss Associates has always worked closely with institutions who understand the business model of the organisation, as well as the performance potential of alternative investment strategies.
